How Sunlight keeps things bright

Three layers of protection work together — so you can relax while your kids explore safely.

1

App & Content Blocking

Sunlight uses Apple's built-in Screen Time framework to block apps, categories, and websites right at the operating system level. When your child opens a blocked app, they see a friendly Sunlight shield — not a scary error. You choose which categories to block (Social Media, Gaming, Streaming, and more) and set daily time limits. It all happens on-device, so your child's app usage stays private.

2

Web Filtering

Every website request passes through Cloudflare's family-safe network using encrypted connections. Known adult sites, malware, and phishing domains are blocked automatically — across Safari, Chrome, and other apps. This is domain-level filtering, so it blocks entire sites (like pornhub.com) rather than individual pages. It works silently in the background with no browser extensions or VPN needed.

3

Tamper-Resistant Protection

Kids are clever — so Sunlight goes the extra mile. With optional device supervision (set up once using Apple Configurator), your child can't uninstall the app, turn off web filtering, or sneak around protection with a VPN. Sunlight checks in regularly and sends you a push notification if anything changes. Without supervision, basic protection still works — but a determined kid could disable it.

One Dashboard for Everything

Manage all your children's devices from your own phone or from the Sunlight dashboard. Update categories, adjust time limits, and respond to tamper alerts — all from one place.

Protection without surveillance

Most parental-control apps log every website your child visits and send it to a server. Sunlight takes a different approach: we never store browsing history, domain names, or URLs.

What your dashboard shows:

  • Daily block counts — "47 things were blocked today" — not what they were
  • Category breakdowns — "Social Media: 23 blocks, Gaming: 12 blocks" — which categories, never which sites
  • Screen-time usage — "45 minutes of Gaming today" — time per category, aggregated on-device
  • Limit events — "Gaming limit reached at 3:42 PM" — so you know the guardrails are working
  • Tamper alerts — instant notifications if protection is disabled or the device stops checking in
  • Device status — which devices are protected, supervised, and recently active

Why this matters: You get a clear picture of whether protection is working and how your child spends their screen time — without building a searchable history of every website they ever visited. Sunlight tells you "the fence is up and holding" — it doesn't install a camera.
