For schools

Sunlight protects your students from the dark side of the web.

Classroom-ready iPad and Mac protection that filters aggressively and surveils never. Built on Apple's own management APIs.

  • CIPA-aligned filtering
  • Built on Apple MDM
  • No student surveillance

We tell you filtering is working — we never tell you who searched what.

Made for the classroom

Profiles for grade bands, schedules tied to bell times, and per-app rules that match your curriculum. Built for 1-to-1 iPad programs.

CIPA-aligned filtering

Default filters cover adult content, violence, gambling, and other categories required for E-rate funding. Adjust per grade level.

We don't read student content

No browsing logs. No keystroke capture. No message scanning. Sunlight reports the filter is working — not what students typed.

Filtering that travels home

Protection follows the device, not the network. CIPA coverage on the bus, at home, on cellular — wherever your iPads go.

Supervised and tamper-proof

Integrates with Apple School Manager. Students can't disable filtering, swap DNS, or remove the app. Built for managed devices.

FERPA-aware reporting

Aggregate, category-level dashboards — no individual student browsing trails to subpoena, breach, or accidentally expose.

Common questions

Is Sunlight CIPA compliant?

Sunlight provides the technical filtering required by CIPA across required categories (obscene content, child sexual abuse material, content harmful to minors). CIPA compliance is ultimately a school policy + technology combination — Sunlight handles the technology side.

How does this compare to GoGuardian or Securly?

Those tools were built when monitoring was the default. Sunlight is built around the opposite assumption: filter aggressively, surveil never. We don't read student work, scan messages, or keep browsing trails.

Does it work with Apple School Manager?

Yes. Sunlight enrolls via standard MDM and respects your existing ASM device assignments and Managed Apple IDs.

What about teachers and admins?

Staff can be assigned profiles with relaxed or no filtering. Or use Sunlight only on student devices and leave staff devices alone — your call.

FERPA — what student data do you store?

Aggregate counts per category per device. No URLs, no search terms, no message content, no app-level usage. The smallest possible footprint that still proves the filter is working.
